An internet diary

From the how-not-to-do-it dept. Jane Galt has an article on Sony VAIO customer service that is just outrageous. I work in phone tech support - and the service that she's gotten would have had a blistering comemnt delivered to me from my manager. OTOH, the company I work for doesn't offshore their tech support, and while I understand there are some outsourced call cetners, they deal with the penny-ante billing BS, not with anything serious.

Sony have turned out to be major sucky company lately.

I supported Blu-ray... till I found out it was backed by Sony. Well now I hope Blu-ray dies.

This is why you build your own systems.

LATELY? Are you too young to remember BETA?

I learned to avoid anything with the Sony name years ago.

For laptops, HP or IBM/Lenovo. Desktops, I build myself. If you don't want the hassle (and it is a hassle) find a reliable local store (but make sure they are reliable and aren't going to go out of business or put an unlicesnsed OS on your HD).

BETA would have been dominate if SONY had not charged so much for the technology. The reason it didn't catch on was because RCA marketed VHS cheaper. However, BETA was the superior technology and SONY would not budge on the money aspect of it, that is why it bombed compared to VHS.

I was too young, yes. VCR was already everything by earliest era I can remember.

Yeah that wasn't first time, but they went better, then worse again.

Yep...I'd never buy a propriety rig cos of all the bloat and crapware they stick in it over and above the OS...plus the fact that some do not provide an OS reinstall disc should you ever need to do a rewrite or repair. I built our last two machines (mine & the Missus'), but now we've moved to Queensland from Tassie, I'll go back to my fav puter store, where he only charges me for the parts (not labor) on new rigs.

Yeah, it would seem Sony has a history of repeatedly stuffing things up...if not for itself, then surely for the consumer....anyone remember rootkits?

I still had a BETA machine until about 5 - 6 years ago, mainly because of its higher quality reproduction during editing, etc, but then some mongrel broke in and decided he needed it more than I did. Oh well, I have DVD recording these days, besides it was becoming rather difficult to find new tapes for BETA, and when I could they were quite expensive.

Remember? I am still finding them on PCs!

Mine is custom-built by small company. ( ENU )

It rocks, because there is crappy/useless hardware and covered by warranty!

Yeah, d'ya hear about the woman who got one on her mobile phone....it always eave-dropped on her calls, and occasionally it would stick its sloppy wet tongue in her ear.
