An internet diary

Via the ever linking Instapundit comes this interesting article on how the memetic fallout of the Cold War is weakening us against the new enemy.

I knew some (but not all) of the historical background; and I'm sure that the author is going to get all kinds of flamage for saying "all of Joseph McCarthy’s rants about “Communists in the State Department” were essentially true." Because, you know, it's just not done to admit that Joseph McCarthy was anything but a small-minded persecutor (which he certainly was, but it is true that he was persecuting people who were the enemy. He just didn't know when to stop, and there ought to be a different between persecuting and prosecuting other than one vowel).

Anyway read the whole thing, and stop and think about how much American society has changed in outlook since Stalin's memetic attacks...
