(I missed the first half the first time around)
Published on November 19, 2004 By IanTyger In Blogging
I've been noticing that people have been mining the socio-cultural material of the '80s for a while now (admittedly, in somewhat specialized fields, such as gaming - GI Joe anyone?)

But now OpinionJournal has caught the signs. An A-team remake, the revival of the Miami Vice franchise.. Big hair even.

And finally "Depeche Mode and The Cure are also staging comebacks."

You may now panic.

I missed the first half too, but as long as people don't start wearing socks and high heels together again, or that way f"unky, icky, unwashed, sprayed with six bottles of hair-spray look again," it's fine.

Hate to break it to you, Dear, but Depeche Mode has been around the whole time. They've been making music for 23 years, I think they deserve some time off to pursue other things. They've had hits and misses like, oh, Madonna. Saying that they're making a comeback is insulting to fans, like myself, who have never thought they were just an 80's band [or just a 90's band for that matter]. If they cash in on this "supposed" comeback, I'm not going to blame them. I'll happily shell out the bucks to see them next time they play in Philly because they are just that good.

On the other hand, I'm so not commenting on the Cure comeback other than it probably took them some time to dig up their old black eyeliner, it's been so long since we've heard from them.
