You are one of the Undying, the immortal beings that would stand beside the gods, had they not been bound to the material world by people. What level of divine power do you have? brought to you by Quizilla
So I woke up this morning with a sore throat, unable to breathe through my nostrils, and my brain on extremely slow speed. I hate being sick. So what do I do? I plop down at the console and prepare to spend the day mindlessly reading websites...
Go read Mr. Hanson. Says it better than I can, he does.
I've been coming to the conclusion that I don't give a tinker's damn about "World Opinion". "World Opinion" wants a tame power, under their control, not interfering with their sweetheart deals, and spending money in their economies, and not looking behind the curtain. What they have is a self-aware power, stirring up trouble and dealing with it before it gets out of hand.
Due to stupid user errors (forgot the cable I need) I haven't been able to get online until just now. Now that I have both my cable and some free time, I decided to set some electrons to screen. I-CON, for those who don't know, is a multiple media convention (sci-fi, fantasy, anime, TV/movie) convention that is held every year in the latter half of march at SUNY Stony Brook out on Long Island. This is my 3rd year attending, and the first one where I didn't spend the entire time playing Wa...
I'm going to I-Con up at SUNY Stony Brook this weekend. I'll be blogging onsite from there from time to time, taking advantage of my wireless carrier's 3G service to connect at dial-up speeds. But hey, it beats carrier pigeons...
And then the world explodes. Well, maybe not, but at least you can have the bike.
So I look at this table, and I really want to know - where's the tax breaks for the rich? (Note - this is TOTAL federal tax burden, not just income tax). Looks to me like the rich pay most of the taxes (top 20% pay 65% of the taxes, and the top 40% pay over 80% (!) of total federal taxes. Even if you define the middle class as the three middle quintiles (which I doubt it actually is, most places), those quintiles on tot up to 33%. If the poor are the two lowest quintiles (lowest 40% of the...
Glenn Reynolds doesn't exactly need more traffic, but I'll give him some anyway.
While you're there, check out this . And follow the Rebecca's Remarks link at the bottom. Priceless
Interesting observation on the job creation front - see here and here . I realize that there are " lies, damn lies, and statistics ." But in my various courses that required plotting a trend, my profs would have given me an extremely hairy eyeball if my plot had anything quite so blatant in it. I doubt you can blame the current administration, they are hurt by it (and weren't even in power during the time in question). But we all know the previous administration would never engage in diddlin...
Between stuff like this and this I've figured out the theme song for the new liberal talk radio (and for the leftist anti-war types that aren't just against us). It is The Folk Song Army by Tom Lehrer
So I'm sitting in Freedom Square, DC, (13th & Pennsylvania ave. NW), getting ready to listen to some Daiko drumming (group is from Japan). I just finished off a bowl of shrimp tempura in a Styrofoam bowl. And I've been taking notes for a blog post when I get to an internet connection on a hand-held computer. Once again, I realize the extent of the age of miracles we live in. If I wanted to, I could be writing this post nearly live, and my readers, wherever in the world you are, could be r...
Seeing people getting their pictures taken with the AOL running man at part of the Cherry Blossom festival in DC today was vaguely amusing. Do people in other countries get their pictures taken with marketing icons?
I forget where I saw this, but it's a definite stress-reliever
