I'm on a linking frenzy today. I have an uncontrollable urge to say "heh". Seriously folks - I'm beginning to think that we are seeing the opening of the Bush Rope Store - 6 foot lengths, easy financing, oak tree thrown in free. And the Dem's are queuing up.

What I want to know, is why this administration DID NOTHING when I lost my job ... in 1999!

So I woke up this morning with a sore throat, unable to breathe through my nostrils, and my brain on extremely slow speed. I hate being sick. So what do I do? I plop down at the console and prepare to spend the day mindlessly reading websites...

And if I could get to the bit that lets me add stuff ot My Favorites over on the right, he'd be on it. Once again, a lovely piece of work. OK, he gets paid to write, so you'd expect him to be good at it, but my expectations were lowered by the NYTimes editorial page...

Steven den Beste of USS Clueless just posted an entry about the tools he uses to control his internet browsing and spam email. I use K9 for email spam catching (based on an earlier recommendation from him). It works quite well for DW, who gets two orders of magnitude more spam than I do (she gets spam on the order of 10^4 since she cleared stats, I get it on the order of 10^2 since I cleared stats - both at roughly the same time). Because I get so little spam, though, K9 has some issues - ...

I've been mulling the events of last week in Spain (the bombings and the subsequent electoral aftershock). A couple of times I've started writing an article about it, and the article never went anywhere, so I stopped. Today, the Wall Street Journal's Best of The Web Today   posted Rudyard Kipling's Danegeld , and drew a parallel with the actions of Spain's voters. What gets me is that this particular Danegeld shows a link between Al-Qaeda and Iraq (Spain removing troops from Iraq in ...

I ran across the linked article today, read it, and decided to comment. Part of it is that DW had a heck of a time renewing her driver's license this past year, because she has changed her name upon marrying me (actually shortly after). The paperwork we had was deemed "insufficient" for DMVs purposes, so we had to jump through some hoops to get "sufficient" paperwork.

You are one of the Undying, the immortal beings that would stand beside the gods, had they not been bound to the material world by people. What level of divine power do you have? brought to you by Quizilla

Presenting - Guns of the Matrix. This guy is awesome
March 13, 2004 by IanTyger
I have a lapel button that someone bought me as a gift a while back that says, "If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?" Apparently, in Australia, that option too is being shut down. I can hear people say "Oh, but it's a sword, what purpose does it have for someone to own?" Well, my wife owns one sword right now, and wants to get a second, and the reason she wants them is as works of art. I own a couple myself, for the same reason. But banning legal ownership swords because a few people hav...

It sounds out there - the Saudis are raising oil prices and pulling out of the US currency markets to torpedo President Bush's re-election chances. But this is the kind of "conspiracy" theory that works. It isn't complex, it doesn't have a single point of failure, and doesn't require people to act out of character. I've been wondering why gasoline prices have been slowly drifting up over the past year, even though the Iraqi oil production has been rising. As far as I know, Venezuela (the ...

I found this the other day from a post in Baen's Bar. Now, can someone tell me how to actually create another category in My Favorites to the right? The instructions say I can do it by creating a blank entry without a URL, but that doesn't work.

I wanted to go into computer security when I was in college. So I keep a interested amateur eye out on computer security issues, and this is a big one. But it illustrates the biggest problem with computer security - people don't want to do it. People take shortcuts to make their systems and networks easier to use, and make them far less secure in the process. They take the easiest option to make resources available, and all too often, it makes other resources available at the same time. A...

I'm going to list some of the reasons I am not only going to vote against Kerry (despite my numerous problems with President Bush's policies), but encourage as many people as possible to vote against him. I'm relying on the words of those who are much better writers that I. "That isn't enough. Based on everything I know about him now, I cannot in good conscience consider voting for him. I would rather vote for a candidate with known policies with which I disagree than for a candidate wh...

Heh. OK - this is a pretty cheesy post, really just a link. But I think it's nifty, so I'm publicising it.
