I always check in on Opinionated Techie every day - whether it's an entry on politics or gaming, his articles are informative, funny, and provocative. His last post is now a couple of days old, and the last few have been about GalCiv 2 . This says to me that he's too busy to blog, hopefully because he's working hard to wow me even more with the next update. Go Brad!
Via Argghhh! The Home Of Two Of Jonah's Military Guys.. comes this test. You Passed 8th Grade Math Congratulations, you got 10/10 correct! Could You Pass 8th Grade Math? I'll admit that I used some l33t SAT skilz on a couple of questions (IE, I couldn't definitively come up with the right answer - so if it hadn't been multiple choice I would hav e had difficulties).
For once, a link from someone other that Instapundit - I found this one from Alphecca . It's from an article about some proposed firearms legislation in the state of Tennessee. When I read it to DW, she giggled her head off. Heh: CRIMINAL LAW: Domestic assault perpetrators to pay victim’s permit fees. Requires perpetrators of domestic assault, stalking, or a violation of protective order cases, if convicted, to pay for handgun safety course or handgun carry permit for victim of off...
Via the ever linking Instapundit comes this interesting article on how the memetic fallout of the Cold War is weakening us against the new enemy. I knew some (but not all) of the historical background; and I'm sure that the author is going to get all kinds of flamage for saying "all of Joseph McCarthy’s rants about “Communists in the State Department” were essentially true." Because, you know, it's just not done to admit that Joseph McCarthy was anything but a small-minded persecutor (...
You scored as Millennium Falcon (Star Wars) . The world around you is at war. Fortunately you know how to handle that with the greatest of ease. You are one of the best at what you do and no one needs to tell you that. Now if only the droids could be quiet for five seconds. Millennium Falcon (Star Wars) 94% Nebuchadnezzar (The Matrix) 88% Deep Space Nine (Star Trek) 81% Galactica (Battlestar: Galactica) ...
From the cell phone geek test @ CNet (via Howardforums , of course) Cell phone geek Face it--you're a cell phone geek. On one hand, it's great that you take the time to know about the technology as you can dispense valuable advice to friends and family. But cell phones aren't the be-all and end-all of human existence, and there's more to life than knowing the differences between Motorola and Nokia. Also, remember that not everyone shares your passion, so unless you're with your fellow ...

Great Horny Toads! Now Sony releases and uninstaller for their rootkit, and it palces an even BIGGER security hole on your computer. This is going to be ... expensive ... for sony
Glenn Reynolds wrote an article for TechCentralStation that is about the differences between large and small organizations in the current environment, and what that might mean in the future. One of the statements he made struck me: " Targeting an industry made up of many small companies is likely to be much harder." We already know this to be true - see the firearms industry. In particular, see what happened to Smith & Wesson when they attempted to cut a deal with the...
From OpinionJournal's Best of the Web yesterday : Here's party chairman Howard Dean, talking with Tim Russert on " Meet the Press " Sunday: Russert: What is the Democratic position on Iraq? Should we withdraw troops now? What do the Democrats stand for? Dean: Tim, first of all, we don't control the House, the Senate or the White House. We have plenty of time to show Americans what our agenda is and we will long before the '06 elections. Russe...

And the news about Sony's rootkit goes on. The Register has a piece on the use of Sony's DRM scheme to hide cheaters on World of Warcraft. And Mark Russinovich continues his reporting on this issue. Be sure to check out the (very clueless) response from "XCP Support", and the various responsed to that... Wonder how Microsoft is going to respond to this...
Via a link from Instapundit comes this tale of Sony's latest DRM - and it's side effects. As a couple of people pointed out - this is probably illegal in a couple of jurisdictions, and downright STUPID to boot. I work in tech support - and have enough problems with poorly written software conflicting - this is poorly written software that HIDES from the user.
